We love nothing more than adopting dogs and seeing their lives change from a harsh life on the street, or a death penalty in a kill shelter and into a loving home.
However, we are also very aware that adopting dogs is not the answer to stray dog populations in the countries in which we work. Our analogy is “it is like using a teaspoon to empty an ocean.”
This is why our key goal, has been and will remain, tackling the root cause of the stray dog population – and continuing our neutering campaigns.
By mid-2024, we have neutered over 18,000 cats and dogs, and we are fast heading towards the incredible 20,000 level.
Did you know that between January and September 2024, we only brought 48 dogs from Romania into the UK for adoption? In that same period, we neutered over 2,000 and our education programme reached over 2,000 children in the communities?
We already have raised through donations, opened 4 vet clinics, run 1 mobile neuter clinic, opened 1 social medical centre, built 1 shelter and 1 sanctuary, and bought land and property to open a horse, cat and dog clinic.
This was pre-empting the change in law in Romania which stated that neutering can only be carried out in a registered medical facility. Prior to this, we would rent out community halls, school halls – but we have always had a focus on neutering.
Our Paws2Rescue vet scholarship scheme already has qualified vets and they all work on our neuter campaigns throughout the year.
We have many different types of campaign running, from a 2 day event, to our hugely successful Spay A Stray campaign – and we neuter every single week. We only stop in the harsh winter when it is not safe to carry out the surgeries.
A huge thank you to everyone who supports Paws2Rescue and our vital work in tackling the root cause of the stray dog populations.
In 2024, in Romania, Ukraine and Peru.
