Our first visit back in Romania for 2023 was to Baia Mare and to the shelter of Adapostul de caini din Baia Mare. With over 160 dogs, of which at least 120 are not homeable, we support them with our Sponsor a Dog scheme. This helps to provide food for those dogs who have varying issues and will probably never know a family home.
Temperatures which dropped below -22C during the day, it was difficult to stay outdoors for too long, and our heart and souls were in pain for the dogs who had nowhere warm to go – other than a kennel with straw. They all came out to see us, many soaked to the bone, others with thick warm coats, and we held the pups tight to us, feeling their skinny shaking bodies.
The portacabins which Paws2Rescue donated were thankfully used to house the oldest and youngest dogs, but the pain of the cold never left us.
